I recently bought an inexpensive collection of board games, and the included instructions left much to be desired. The typefaces didn’t match, the content organization was inconsistent, and there were several formatting errors. This was a clear case of not utilizing styles. As a technical writer, I value clear, consistent, and concise writing. I thought I could clean up the directions and give them a uniform look.
First, I created a style set for headings, subheadings, and normal text. Then, I created a template which detailed the game’s name, number of players, objective, setup, and game play. Additionally, I changed some of the language to produce gender neutral instructions.Game Rule Revision
